Leah Cameron hired as new Director of Supportive Services —

Please join us in welcoming Leah Cameron to her new role as Director of Supportive Services! Leah replaces Michele Boyer, who held the position in various incarnations for 23 years. Leah is a longtime staff member herself — celebrating a decade this year — and we’re so happy that she’s accepted the position. Here’s a little bit more about Leah from the woman herself …

Why did you start working with Clare Housing 10 years ago?
To be honest, when I started working for Clare Housing part-time, I needed a job and I liked the mission! But what’s kept me here is how exceptionally it’s run. After 10 years, I still have nothing to say but good things. It’s run in a transparent way, and the staff really want to be doing this work. That gives me energy.

You worked with Michele for quite a long time, what’s one thing about her way of approaching this work that you hope to continue?
If you’re working with Michele, she has your back. I’ve always admired that about her. I’m going to miss being able to pick up the phone and ask her advice when things get tricky, but I’ve learned a lot from her and her inexhaustible compassion.

What do you hope to bring to the role that reflects your own passions and interests?
I would love to make our services more robust. As the Supportive Services Manager at Clare Apartments, and Clare Terrace I did a lot of putting out fires. It would be great to have the resources to really work proactively with residents on their life and health goals.

Forty-eight percent of our residents are dealing with an active substance use issue. Helping people reach even partial sobriety would have a big impact on their lives. Many residents would also benefit from greater employment. Besides the money, having a job really helps give you a sense of satisfaction and routine in life that can be valuable to your well-being. It would be great to grow these ideas.

Thanks to Leah for sitting down with us and congratulations again on this new role! We are all looking forward to the ways you will grow your own vision of what supportive services can be here.
