Clare Housing Awarded Funds to Open 6 New Scattered Site Apartments for People Living with HIV — August 17, 2018
We just found out that we will be able to offer six new units of housing to people living with HIV as soon as this October! This morning, the Minneapolis City Council awarded Clare Housing $214,342 in additional HOPWA Funding.
These 6 additional units are badly needed. Clare Housing alone has a waiting list of over 360 applicants, and it is estimated that there are around 1,000 Minnesotans living with HIV in need of permanent housing solutions. We are grateful to be entrusted with the opportunity to open 6 new doors to home, health, and hope to people living with HIV and their families.
Distributed over the next 2 years, this grant also enables us to hire a Scattered Site Housing Stability Specialist to support these new residents. The Specialist will connect residents to the health care and services needed to stay healthy and housed. The Scattered Site Housing program is a part of a spectrum of housing solutions we offer.
Our Scattered Site Housing program offers an opportunity for people to live independently in affordable housing units that are embedded in other market-rate and nonprofit housing developments across the 7-county metro area. It provides an invaluable avenue for us to partner with other agencies and businesses to create more housing, without the tremendous expense of building that housing ourselves. Clare Housing currently has scattered site units in Minneapolis, Fridley, Brooklyn Park, Maplewood, and St. Paul.
We are grateful for the support of the City of Minneapolis and City Council. Together we can achieve our collective vision of ensuring all people living with HIV have access to affordable housing by 2025.
