After a summer of construction, we are happy to have a newly renovated apartment building for 32 residents to enjoy for years to come. Clare Housing opened Clare Apartments NE back in 2005 as its first apartment building in response to the growing independence made possible thanks to antiretroviral therapies.
We want to thank our partners, Clare Housing residents, and community members for recently gathering to celebrate the renovations at Clare Apartments NE, and for engaging in important conversations at the Community Town Meeting hosted by Clare Housing Residents and HIV Long-term Survivors. We are grateful to our friends at Gilead Sciences for sponsoring this celebration.

Renovating the Building
The renovation project included updates to resident units, shared community spaces, nursing offices, and outdoor facilities that provide stable and quality housing to the 32 residents who call Clare Apartments NE home. Some of the improvements include new windows and flooring, new plumbing and lighting fixtures, a new elevator, new furniture for the community room, and a full HVAC system replacement.
These renovations were made possible by partners including Hugh J. Andersen Foundation, Minnesota Housing, City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, Minnesota Equity Fund, Cinnaire, Frerichs Construction, and LHB Architects.
Community Town Meeting
Members of the Clare Housing Resident Council centered the voices and experiences of long-term survivors of HIV through a town meeting with presentations from the MN Department of Health on the 2025 HIV/AIDS Statistics Report, and remarks from Clare Housing Executive Director Phoebe Trepp.
Together, we heard from residents Marty and Joe about the impacts of HIV stigma, the challenges of navigating health and housing systems, and the lasting and meaningful impacts of calling Clare Housing home.
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Bringing together nearly 100 Clare Housing supporters and partners, the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony welcomed speakers including:
